8th Lane Interactive/Software Blueprint

Plan the software
your business needs.

Software Blueprint is a focused planning engagement for work that needs more definition before development. We look at the business need, the people using the software, and the systems it must work with, then produce a practical plan for the initial build or rebuild.

§ 01When Planning Helps

Get clear on the work
before it begins.

A planning engagement is useful when you know what needs to work better but the scope, user experience, or technical approach still needs defining.

That might mean a new portal, an app rebuild, or a workflow that needs its own system. We establish what the initial work should cover and what it will take to keep the software useful once it is in use.

If you already have software and want to know what state it is in, that is a free assessment, not a Blueprint. A Blueprint is for work that does not exist yet or still needs defining.

For work that is already clear, we can scope the development and ongoing support directly.

§ 02The Plan

A practical plan for your software.

01

Business purpose

What the software needs to do, who will use it, and how it fits into the business.

02

Initial scope

The work to include in the first build or rebuild, with clear priorities.

03

User workflows

The practical steps people need to take and how the software should support them.

04

An appropriate prototype

Wireframes or an interactive prototype where useful, at a depth that fits the work.

05

Technical approach

The systems, integrations, and key decisions involved, including requirements for ongoing operation.

06

Phased delivery plan

How to deliver the initial work and what managing and improving it afterward will involve.

§ 03 / What Comes Next

A plan for the build
and what follows.

The plan sets out the initial work and what operating the software will involve. You can use it to make the development decision and compare options.

If we continue together, we’ll agree on what I’ll build, what I’ll manage, and how ongoing improvements will be covered.

How ongoing work is scoped

Tell me what needs
working out.

We’ll talk about the business need and decide whether a planning engagement is a useful first step.
